Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner not with their AHL affiliate Charlotte Checkers in practice
Canadian professional ice hockey player Jeff Skinner was not there in practice session with Charlotte Checkers, American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates of his National Hockey League (NHL) team Carolina Hurricanes.
20-year-old player, who was youngest player of the 2010-2011 season and youngest player ever to feature in an NHL All Star Game, was expected to there as the team camp opened.
Carolina Hurricanes, who play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference, had re-signed him last month in a six year contract. Skinner was to be paid $34.4 million, averaging around $6 million for every year.
But the organisation who had assigned the player for their AHL affiliates, expects him to join the team soon, hopefully before their first game of the season. Checkers have made it official that Skinner would not be there on Saturday, when the team takes
the ice for the first time in this season. He was assigned for the team 15 days back on 15th September.
Charlotte Checkers head coach, while talking to the team’s website revealed that the Toronto, Ontario born player is still in his hometown and has not joined them yet. But he mentioned that Skinner has got team’s consent as he said,
"He's still back in the Toronto area, training. He has the team's consent, and we'll see where things go from here."
Daniels also invited the player by saying that if the first round pick of the 2010 NHL Draft gets bored and has not got anyone to play for, Checkers’ team is a very good option for him, as he added,
"If [the work stoppage] drags on and he decides he wants to play some games, Charlotte will be an option for him”.
Before making his NHL debut in 2010-2011 season, the 5-foot-11, 200 pounder left winger played some hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as he made his professional career debut for Kitchener Rangers. And before that he was playing in Greater Toronto
Hockey League (GTHL) for Toronto Young Nats.
His performance in first season of NHL was also great as he played in all the regular season games and scored 31 goals, 32 assists for total of 63 points and followed it up by 44 points in 64 games last season.
