Carolina Hurricanes’ forward Tuomo Ruutu in injury scare as NHL trade deadline looms large – NHL News
An injury blow to Carolina Hurricanes’ forward, Tuomo Ruutu, does not bear well into his chances and hopes of a better deal in the upcoming trade of the Canadian’s National Hockey League (NHL) as it nears its deadline of February 27, 2012.
Ruutu is amongst the potential players expected to be available at the trade and the forward apparently holds greater chance of being picked up by any team around the NHL on rather healthy terms.
He was very much ambitious and confident on the opportunity of reaching a deal with any of his potential suitors, and now fears ruining of the chance in the wake of his upper body injury.
The injury forced the player to leave the Monday, February 13, 2012, night game against the Montreal Canadiens. He did not show up through out the game, after suffering the injury in first few minutes.
The nature and latest status of his injury has not been confirmed yet and in the absence of a timeline about his recovery and rejoining of his squad.
Ruutu’s injury came just after his team secured a lead courtesy of a goal by their centre, Jiri Tlusty, into fourth minute of the game. He was helped to the sidelines and remained on the bench until end of the contest.
He apparently fell prey to a rash hit by their opposition’s centre, Tomas Plekanec. The hit looked rather serious, knocking down the player and forcing him out for rest of the game.
There is no confirmation either from the player’s agent or the team management when and if he is going to available for his team for the remaining part of the current season.
Only confirmation that had come via a Twitter posting from his team was confirmation of his injury on upper part of his body, with nothing more or less explained further.
Amid the uncertainty, the player and his team have become conscious to the fact of looming trade deadline of February 27, 2012.
None of his team officials have so far commented on his chances of becoming free agency or if they will look into the possibilities of re-signing him under the same or renewed terms.
The situation is expected to be clearer in coming few days.
The player is set become free agent after July 01, this year (2012) when his deal runs out.
His team will need to re-sign him before the trade deadline of February 27, as beyond that they will not have an alternate choice than to wait for him being relieved from his contractual bindings.
It is the only general manager of Hurricanes, Jim Rutherford, who during one of his statements said that he was exploring the possibilities of retaining the player with them for more seasons to come.
