Carolina Hurricanes’ forward Tuomo Ruutu’s three-week injury exit not to affect his deal chances – NHL News
The Carolina Hurricanes have confirmed that the injury to their forward, Tuomo Ruutu, was of the serious nature and that the player will not be available over the period of next three weeks.
Ruutu suffered an upper body injury in Hurricanes game against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday, February 13, 2012, and has not played or practiced along with his teammates since then.
The player was inspected on the sidelines for his injury and did not show up for the remaining part of the game. His team has now revealed that the injury will take atleast three weeks to heal and recover before he rejoins his squad.
An MRI test was done on the player and results have shown that he will need three weeks time to being able to play again, according to the team’s general manager, Jim Rutherford.
Rutherford while confirming the exit of the forward said it was unlikely that his absence will affect the team in any way.
"It will have no impact," he said.
He further confirmed that the player’s injury and ousting from the team for the stipulated period will not affect his prospects of staying with in the future, in case he is re-signed by Hurricanes before the trade deadline of February 27, 2012.
"The fact that we'd like him to stay and like to re-sign him has not changed in any way," the GM added.
Ruutu’s deal with the Carolina Hurricanes is due to expire after July 01, 2012, and he has chances of reaching a deal with any other team on the National Hockey League (NHL) if his they decide against retaining him.
The trade deadline of the NHL professional players runs out on February 27, 2012 and the teams have to sign potential players by the day or well before it.
Hurricanes’ forward currently is in phase of an uncertainty in the absence of a final word from his team if they are going to retain him.
Rutherford in his one of recent comments has hinted at looking into the possibilities of keeping him at the side for more seasons to come.
There was a sense of worry that the latest injury might affect the player’s chance and hopes of winning an extension from his team or possibly fetching a better deal from any other potential suitors.
The GM has played down the impression in his latest statement, saying his injury will not affect the player’s potential re-signing by his team, which he did not confirm to be a definite decision from them.
Ruutu can hope for the possibility becoming reality while he nurses his injury for three weeks in the current season. It might happen for him well before that as only 10 days are left to approaching of February 27 trade deadline, after which he will have
become an unrestricted free agency.
