Carolina Hurricanes hopeful of first season win against Boston Bruins -NHL Match Preview
Carolina Hurricanes have not been lucky in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular thus far, and it looks like that they will not be getting any relief any time soon as they face-off against the Stanley Cup champions, Boston Bruins, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States.
Fortunately for Carolina, they will be playing without their rowdy forward, David Krejci, who went out with an undisclosed injury in their last matchup against Colorado Avalanche and the Hurricanes might just have a secret weapon up their sleeves to tackle the situation.
"We're three games in now and you want to get that win as soon as you can", said Hurricanes captain, Eric Staal. "We've played decently in the last two games, but we just haven't found one in the win column".
Tomas Kaberle, the former Boston veteran defenseman who played a major role in Bruins winning the Stanley Cup, is now part of the Carolina line-up and just might be that x-factor in leading them to their first victory against his former team.
Another way at looking Boston’s season start so far is that they have not showed any miracles either. Up until now, the championship defenders have only won a single game thus far against Tampa Bay Lightning, and los the other two home games against Philadelphia Flyers and Colorado Avalanche.
Kicking off their away game road-trip against Carolina, it will certainly be exciting to see how the team performs in a different stadium.
Recently, Boston also signed on their veteran centre, Rich Peverley, to a three-year contract extension, worth an estimated $9.75 million, which has the player fully motivated and wanting to contribute more and more.
"It feels good to not have to worry about the contract on your mind the whole year. But some guys play better in those situations and I've done this actually before, signing a year earlier," he said. "It does help, but it doesn't change the goals in mind that you have", Peverley said.
At the moment, Carolina excels Boston in goals-per-game with a 2.00 average compared to 1.67, making them the more concrete shooters, which could give Bruins, a team known to be widely defensive more than offensive, a workout for a victory.
Currently, Pittsburgh Penguins are leading as the top team in the Eastern Conference with 7 points and nearly winning all of their matches, only losing one in overtime. Being the defenders of the Stanley Cup, Boston Bruins stand at the 12th number spot above Ottawa Senators, but seeing that the season has just only begun, nothing concrete can be said at the moment, no matter how experienced of an analyst one might be.
Boston kicks off its two-day road trip against Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday, followed by a matchup against Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.
Carolina on the other hand will be playing Boston at home for one game before taking off on a four-game road trip.
The match between Boston and Carolina is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.
