Carolina Hurricanes host the Pittsburgh Penguinsin their fourth and final meeting of the season - NHL Previews
The second game of Friday will be the Pittsburgh Penguins going to Carolina to square off against the Hurricanes.
This will be the four and final meeting between the two sides.
Out of the first three meetings that have already taken place, the Penguins have won all three games.
The Penguins won the first game 3-0 while the second was decided in shootout which the Penguins won 5-4.
The most recent meeting that took place on the 22nd of January 2011 saw the Penguins coming up with a strong performance that saw them winning the game 3-2 in the end.
Both teams have brought in players in the roster with a few faces that have already played for them during the recent history.
Penguins have added James Neal and Matt Niskanen are the recent additions to the Penguins roster.
Another one of the expected additions is the Senators forward Alex Kovalev who spent five seasons of his career with the Penguins during 1998-2003.
The Hurricanes on other hand are trading their fifth round pick in Ryan Carter to bring back Cory Stillman from the Florida Panthers. Stillman was a part of the 2006 Stanley Cup winning Hurricanes team.
The Penguins have emerged very strong during the course of the season and it is remarkable how they have been able to play so well despite losing some important.
Penguins have been without the services of Captain Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin but still they have been able to cement themselves in the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference.
The injury list doesn’t stop and there are many other who have been added like Chris Kunitz and Mark Letestu.
However, the Penguins are starting to suffer now as they have managed to win one two games in regulation time over the past nine games.
"We have a team here that's been decimated by injury, but I'm really proud of the way these guys have really battled and they're getting their points here and there," Shero said the Penguins recent performances.
The Penguins have played 62 games in the season so far out of which they have won 36 games in regulation time, scored a point in six games scoring a total of 78 points.
On the other hand, the Hurricanes have played 61 games and won 28 games in regulation time, nine games have seen them scoring a point as they score a total of 65 points.
The Hurricanes have the Sabres breathing down their neck as they are just three points ahead of them.
Their loss on Tuesday to the Rangers who are in the seventh hurt them a lot and a loss here could very well see them losing the final play-off spot.
Talking about the new addition, Corey Stillman the General Manager said, "This was a good opportunity for us to add some experience," said Rutherford. "Cory adds more depth to our forward lines and we are familiar with what he is capable of doing offensively."
