Carolina Hurricanes rebound to overtake Nashville Predators 4-3 -NHL Update
After allowing Nashville to take the lead entering the Tuesday night contest, Carolina rebounded and took it over in the next 20 minutes as Hurricanes edged Nashville Predators 4-3 at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
It might seem that the Hurricanes have died down but according to them, they are just getting started and may just be one of those teams that surprise in the final few days with a major comeback.
"Quietly, we're putting some points together," Carolina coach, Kirk Muller, said. "We're in every game, and that's all I ask of them because they try and they compete. We got six out of eight points, and we knew this was an important stretch. The month has
been good."
Carolina lost their previous two games against Anaheim Ducks and Florida Panthers, both in a shootout, making them a team that can manage in regulation but lack the potential to carry through with it into overtime and a shootout.
Craig Smith gave Nashville their lead with his 12th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season at 2:42 into the opener. Nashville also killed of two straight penalties in the first but lost the momentum to go on in the next.
Jamie McBain fired off in the opening minutes of the second to level the match, which was followed by Nashville’s Colin Wilson a breakaway goal but Eric Staal and Tim Brent answered right back on two consecutive power play goals.
Bryan Allen scored the game winning goal 1:28 into the final period as Gabriel Bourque brought Predators within one of tying but failed to come up with the equaliser.
Being part of the Nashville trade rumour mill, Allen could not sort out why and where he might have been heading prior to the NHL February 27 trade deadline.
"I really couldn't tune it out, especially when your name is sort of involved," Allen said of the speculations. "It was nice to get a goal. It turned out to be the game-winner. But the penalty kill that came before it was huge."
Carolina is ready to continue winning but might have a tough time as they are scheduled to host New York Rangers on Thursday while Nashville has the next against Florida Panthers on Saturday.
