Carolina Hurricanes sign and give defenseman Jay Harrison a three-year extension
Carolina Hurricanes have given extension to their Canadian defenseman Jay Harrison by signing him in a three-year deal. They have also given him an increment as his salaries are increased by more than two times.
In his last contract Jay Harrison was given $700,000 as he had a $1.4 million contract for two years but now he has signed a three-year contract for $4.5 million, which means he will get an average $1.5 million which is more than double of what he got in
previous contract.
The 29-year-old defenseman still had one year left in his previous contract which expires after 2012-2013 season but to be on the safe side and book him before anybody else does, Carolina Hurricanes made this move of signing him till 2016 to make their defence
steady for years to come as Harrison is still very young considering hockey sport and has a lot to offer for a long time.
Raleigh, North Carolina based team’s general manager, Jim Rutherford, announced this on Tuesday and showed his happiness on signing the defenseman. 63-year-old Canadian, former NHL player who himself played for four different teams, Toronto Maple Leafs,
Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings, is happy to have him for next four years and talked about consistency and steadiness that Harris will bring to his team as he said,
“Jay has developed into a consistent, steadying presence for our defence. He is capable of providing both physicality and offense, and we are happy to now have him under contract for the next four seasons.”

normal performance in first three years by scoring 15, 20 and 19 points in first, second and third season respectively but his fourth season was his best as he scored 12 goals, 31 assists and 43 points.
The same year he got drafted 82nd overall in 2001 NHL draft by Toronto Maple Leafs and joined their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates St. John’s Maple Leafs. But he did not make his NHL debut until 2005-2006 season when he played for Toronto
