Carolina Hurricanes still working out were Jordan Staal, Alexander Semin will fit best -NHL Update
Most teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) are still finding it hard to believe that the offseason is nearly over and the free agency has basically wound up, but they still have not been able to turnaround their team as much as needed.
But for other clubs like Carolina Hurricanes, who are overwhelmed with talented players, choosing where to play a certain performer seems to be the biggest area of concern in order to maximise output for the upcoming regular season.
For head coach Kirk Muller, using Jordan Staal seems to be the biggest confusion and how to use him is next. With brother Eric Staal and their captain, on the same squad, there is still no telling whether the two will be playing on the same line or have interchanging shifts.
Muller, when asked that very same question as it is on the mind of basically each and every Carolina Hurricanes fan, responded in the neutral area, not saying anything that may be considered definitive.
"I think that's the great opportunity with training camp, is to experiment," Muller told the Raleigh News & Observer. "We've got lots of [preseason] games. The first initial thing, right now, we definitely want to give them an opportunity to play together in those games and see if there's chemistry."
Staal was always overshadowed by Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh with the Penguins, but now he can break away with captain, Eric Staal and lead Carolina to another Stanley Cup championship.
"I'm obviously looking to expand my role and be more of an elite player," Staal added. "I know the opportunity is here and obviously there is pressure. Hopefully I can have a big year and a big career here and try to be the elite player I can be."
Muller thinks that Alexander Semin is a better fit with either Eric or Jordan staal, ultimately, the coach will have the final say in the entire process.
Updates should be expected on the topic on the upcoming days as teams gear up to announce their finals squads for the upcoming regular season.
