Carolina Hurricanes thrash Ottawa Senators 4-0

Carolina Hurricanes Centre Zach Boychuk scored two quick goals in the opening period, while goalkeeper Cam Ward stopped 37 shots to lead his side to a 4-0 win over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. This was the Hurricanes second consecutive win.
The Ottawa Senators made a decent start to the match, as they attacked and defended really well. They managed to create a number of chances but failed to take advantage because of some indifferent finishing. That allowed the away team to settle into the
game and they continued to grow in confidence. Resultantly, Carolina started to come across chances too. The only difference was that the Hurricanes converted their chances into goals.
The away side took the lead through Zach Boychuk’s wrap around shot in the 10th minute. They continued with their attacking approach and were rewarded four minutes later, when Zach Boychuk scored again. Both teams had more scoring chances and the period
ended with the Carolina Hurricanes leading 2-0. During the course of the period Carolina made 10 goal attempts, while the Ottawa Senators made eight goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams attack regularly, but they were cautious in defence. The period saw the Senators coming close to scoring in the 10th minute, but some more lacklustre finishing meant they couldn’t score again.
The Carolina Hurricanes worked hard in the period despite leading 2-0. In doing so, they came up with some spectacular attacking moves. The Hurricanes scored their third goal in the 16th minute through a powerful Erik Cole strike. Both teams continued to
attack until the end of the period but no further goals were scored. The period ended with the Carolina Hurricanes leading 3-0. Carolina made 12 goal attempts compared to the Ottawa Senators 11 goal attempts.
Ottawa attacked right from the start in the final period as they looked to get themselves back in the game. That left them exposed in defence, and Carolina caught them on the counter attack to seal the game through Patrick Dwyer’s goal in the fifth minute.
This was the only goal of the period which ended with the Carolina Hurricanes winning 4-0. The final period saw the Carolina Hurricanes make nine goal attempts, while the Ottawa Senators made 18 goal attempts. Cam Ward was named the star selection of the
match.
