Carolina Hurricanes to take on Colorado Avalanche – NHL Preview
Carolina Hurricanes were impressive during the victories against Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings, but their recent loss has once again put a question mark on their consistency.
Carolina has a lot of questions to answer as it takes a road trip to play against Colorado Avalanche for a National Hockey League (NHL) game on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado.
Against all odds, Carolina defeated Boston by scoring a goal each in every period while goalie, Cam Ward, got a shutout.
In the next game, Los Angeles was victimised by Carolina, as Hurricanes scored a goal each in second and third period, to recover from a one-goal deficit.
And when it seemed that things were going pretty well for Carolina, the Hurricanes surrendered in front of Anaheim Ducks.
Carolina’s lead was neutralised twice by the Ducks, who scored a goal in overtime to seal the victory.
Hurricanes’ captain, Eric Staal, was of the view that his team played well despite being defeated.
He said:
“Our compete level was there, we were on pucks, we were aggressive, we were attacking. Wardo [goalie] was good when he needed to be."
Carolina is placed at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 50 points after 55 games.
Colorado Avalanche has a chance of beating the Hurricanes as the former has just snapped its five-game losing streak.
And the skid was ended after defeating the well reputed Chicago Blackhawks.
Colorado was doing well defensively of late, but the offence was not there to support. However, against Blackhawks the team effort was noticeable.
After Chicago’s goal in the second period, Colorado scored twice. Blackhawks scored another goal to level the score.
However, the final period belonged totally to the Avalanche, who scored three goals to end the game on 5-2.
David Jones scored two goals and received admiration from his teammates and coach.
"It's been a good response from Jonesey," Avalanche's coach, Joe Sacco said.
He added:
"He gets in there and gets an opportunity to play on a good line with Paul and Milan and he buries a couple tonight. So, good for him and good for our team."
Colorado is placed at 12th spot with 57 points after 55 games and has a little upper hand over Carolina, but Hurricanes can also win the battle, if it works on its prominent flaws.
