Carolina Hurricanes win 4-1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins
The second game of Friday was hosted by the Pittsburgh Penguins as they were up against the Carolina Hurricanes which took place at the RBC Centre.
A win was crucial for Hurricanes as they are in the final play-off position to pull away from the Buffalo Sabres who are breathing down their neck.
Though both the teams were evenly matched during the course of the three periods in terms of goal attempts but the Hurricanes were the more productive of the two teams.
Hurricanes scored four goals with the Penguins scoring once to win the game 4-1 in the end.
Erik Cole of the Hurricanes was named the start of the game for scoring a goal and making an important assist.
The home team was quick to make a good start which was shown with the first play ending in a goal attempt for them.
Hurricanes were fully backed by the fans who urged them to score. The Hurricanes responded to call and successfully scored in the second minute through Jay Harrison from a quick fired shot to get into the lead.
The Penguins also came up with a few shots on goal and pieces of play but this was all they could manage during the period.
Hurricanes came across a power play in the later stages of the period which saw them scoring once again through Joe Corvo from a powerful strike to double their lead.
The period saw the Hurricanes and the Penguins both making a few more scoring attempts but they failed in doing so. The period ended with the Hurricanes leading 2-0 as they made 9 goal attempts during the period while the Penguins made six goal attempts.
The Penguins started the second period on high and their attacks were led with a lot more confidence. However, the Hurricanes were on fire as they come up with some splendid pieces of play that saw catching up pace with the passage of time.
The home team set the home crowd wild as they scored once again in the 11th minute through Erik Cole’s simple tip in shot.
Penguins continued to attack and finally were rewarded with a goal in the 16th minute scored by Pascal Dupuis from a superb shot.
The period ended with the Hurricanes leading 3-1 at the end. During the course of the period, the Hurricanes made six goal attempts while the Penguins made 16 goal attempts.
The final period of the game saw the Penguins on the charge once again but again they weren’t able to be the productive team that they have emerged in the last few games.
However, the red hot Hurricanes scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute through Jussi Jokinen to seal the game.
Though the Penguins came up with a few decent scoring chances but they failed to find the back of the net.
The period and the game ended with the Hurricanes winning the game 4-1 in the end.
