Carolina Hurricanes wins 3-2 against New York Islanders in overtime

The second last game of Friday was played at the RBC Center as Carolina Hurricanes played host to the New York Islanders.
The game saw Hurricanes in the need to win the game if they wanted to keep hopes of making it into the cut alive. A win for the Hurricanes would draw them level on points with the final playoff positioned team.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw them scoring a goal each as the period was nearing its end.
However, Islanders dominated the second period which saw them scoring the lone goal of the period to get into the lead.
Hurricanes scored in the final period to level the scores on 2-2 and the game went into overtime.
Hurricanes scored in overtime to win the game 3-2 in the end.
Cam Ward, goalkeeper of Hurricanes, was named the star of the game as he made 35 saves during the course of the game.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw them creating chances for themselves every now and then and firing shots on goal frequently. The passing and shooting at the start of the game was brilliant by both teams.
Things got better and better until the 17th minute when Hurricanes scored to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Jeff Skinner from a brilliant tip-in shot.
Islanders were on a roll and managed to score too. They scored in the very next minute through Frans Nielsen's brilliant backhand shot.
The period ended with both teams making a few more shots on goal but no further goals were scored. The scores were level on 1-1 with Hurricanes making 11 shots on goal while Islanders made 13 shots on goal.
The second period saw Islanders making a decent start to the game and scoring in the 4th minute through Michal Grabner's brilliant backhand shot to get into the lead.
Islanders came out strong and some very strong shots and loads of scoring chances came their way.
However, there were no further goals during the course of the period. Islanders were in the lead by 2-1 as they made 17 shots during the course of the period while Hurricanes made 8 shots on goal during the period.
The final period saw Hurricanes coming up with a decent effort which saw them scoring in the 16th minute through Erik Cole from a quick fired shot to level the scores.
The period didn’t see any goals and the scores were level at the end of regulation time.
The game went into overtime where the Hurricanes scored once again in the fourth minute to score through Joni Pitkanen's powerful strike to win the game by 4-3.
