Carolina Hurricanes wins 3-2 against the Buffalo Sabres to maintain final play-off position
The Carolina Hurricanes played host to Buffalo Sabres at the RBC Centre this Thursday. The game was important for both teams as they looked to cement their position in the play-offs.
A win for the Sabres would put them into the play-off cut but a win for the Hurricanes would cement their position in the Eastern Conference.
The first and the final periods were goalless but both teams scored two goals in the second period.
The Hurricanes came back twice to level the scores. However, in the end the scores were level on 2-2.
The Hurricanes scored in overtime to score the winner. Jamie McBain, defenceman of the Hurricanes was the star of the game as he scored a goal and made an important assist.
The game started on the slower side for both teams as they didn’t go on the attacks.
The main reason for this was the fact that both teams needed a win and they were aware of the fact that if they fall behind early then it would difficult to come back.
There were shots early on but the attacks didn’t see the involvement of all the players. With the passage of time, things got better and shots on goal started to come frequently.
Though there were some decent goal scoring opportunities for both teams, no goals were scored as the period ended with the scores level on 0-0. During the course of the period the Sabres made 11 goal attempts while the Hurricanes made 7 goal attempts.
The second period started with both teams attacking right from the start and they were very dangerous as they did this. The Sabres successfully scored in the fifth minute through Steve Montador from a powerful strike to get into the lead.
The period saw both teams pretty much equal when it came to play construction and shots on goal.
The home team managed to bring the crowd back to life as they scored in the seventh minute through Jiri Tlusty from a well placed flick shot to level the scores.
The period continued with attacks from both sides. The Sabres scored once again in the 11th minute through Brad Boyes to get back into the lead.
Hurricanes managed to bounce back all of sudden as they scored in the very next minute through Chad LaRose from a decent strike to level the scores once again.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2. During the course of the period, the Sabres made 7 goal attempts while the Hurricanes made 8 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of plays saw both teams playing in the same manner as the second period.
There were regular shots on goal but unfortunately no goals were scored during the final 20 minutes of play. The final period saw the Sabres making 11 shots on goal while the Hurricanes made 8 as the period ended with the scores level on 2-2.
The game went into overtime where the Hurricanes scored through Jamie McBain from a powerful strike in the very first minute to win the game by 3-2.
