Carolina Kluft sprints all the way to the final
Of Swedish origin, twenty seven year old athlete Carolina Kluft is a specialist primarily in the long jump and triple jump, and occasionally the heptathlon and pentathlon. Kluft’s first major tournament was the European Championships in 2002, where she achieved an impressive victory, in addition to setting a world record of six thousand five hundred and forty two points at the junior level.
The World Championships in 2003 provided her with another opportunity to continue her quest for excellence, as she became the third athlete in the history of athletics to score seven thousand points. Currently associated with a personal best of seven thousand and thirty two points, she is the European record holder for the heptathlon, clearly establishing her not only as one of the greatest athletes that Sweden has showcased over the past few years, but also amongst the finest athletes the world has witnessed at the international platform. Her current personal best marks her name on the second position, trailing behind only Jackie Joyner-Kersee, who achieved a truly impressive number of seven thousand two hundred and ninety one points.
Ever since her inception into the arena of athletics in 2002, Carolina Kluft has had an unbroken spree of 22 wins at the heptathlon and pentathlon competitions; her merit also boasts of nine consecutive gold medal wins at major championships.  Her list of accolades certainly does not expire here, since she also has to her name the distinction of being the only athlete in history to emerge victorious at three world titles in the field of heptathlon. With a personal best of 14.29 meters at the triple jump, Carolina Kluft is clearly one of the most distinguished athletes in the Swedish athletics squad.
Carolina Kluft’s athletic career seemed to be in jeopardy last year, when she succumbed to an injury by tearing her hamstring. Yet, it is delightful and particularly not surprising to discover that this powerhouse performer has returned with a magnificent breakthrough; she was given the nod to participate at the European Championships in Barcelona. The past few years have emerged to be tough for this Swedish athlete, as she hopelessly came 9th in the long jump at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, and to make matters worse she failed to qualify for the triple jump final. The injury also prevented her from participating at the World Championships, having to forgo another pivotal opportunity to regain her form and re-establish her confidence.
Therefore being approved to participate in the European Championships, and sprinting all the way to the final of the long jump implies a great sense of encouragement for Carolina Kluft, and she seems on her way to resuming her past level of physical form and stamina. With a distance of 6.62 meters attained at the first attempt by this athlete, the prospects seem considerably bright. Ahead of the final showdown, Kluft has expressed that she is sufficiently hopeful of her chances of acquiring a medal, while admitting at the same time that she definitely requires more practice.
For an athlete who has displayed a personal best of 6.97 meters at the long jump, Caroline Kluft does tend to provide considerable hopes of victory to the country of Sweden ahead of the final encounter. Yet at the same time, it is hard to entirely ignore the fact that this athlete has not yet regained the level of performance she has attained in the past. While one hopes she is able to achieve, and even surpass the mark she has set for herself, it is something that will only be discovered once the final concedes. Nevertheless, it can be safely said that even reaching the final itself after such strong setbacks is a victory in itself for Caroline Kluft.
