Carolina Marin outplays Nicole Schaller to claim Women’s Singles title at Swedish International
Spain’s elite shuttler Carolina Marin proved her supremacy on court and secured Women’s Singles title after defeating Switzerland’s Nicole Schaller in the final encounter of Swedish International Stockholm 2013 on Sunday, January 20, in Sweden.
The top seeded Marin, who has been putting up smashing show of top class badminton throughout the tournament, continued her staggering performance and easily outplayed her eighth seeded Swiss rival in just 28 minutes.
Spanish player played at her maximum speed throughout the tournament and remained successful in winding up the final clash in straight games with a smashing 21-6 and 21-10 score on the board.
On the contrary, the lower ranked Schaller tried her best to play attacking and positive badminton but failed to live up to expectations and eventually lost the final encounter against her top seeded Spanish challenger in a lopsided manner.
Marin showed her aggression on court from the initial rallies of first set by creating a huge pressure on her challenger.
The impressive variations in Marin’s strokes helped her to continue her supremacy against her opponent on court.
Marin progressed with a superb speed in the starting part and remained in lead on score board until the interval.
Schaller tried to put up strong resistance but could not take control of the game and remained struggling in the concluding half.
The higher ranked Marin remained consistent in executing powerful shots in targeted areas and grabbed the first set with a completely one-sided 21-6 margin on the score board.
The in-form Spanish lady did not lose her concentration at any stage in the starting half of second game as she played with control and aggression.
Marin was in remarkable form and she did not face any problem in setting up a sound lead until the one-minute interval.
Marin continued putting up sound performance in the second part of second set and remained successful in clinching the game with a staggering 21-10 total on score board.
With this victory the Spanish shuttler found a perfect start of the year and has got the required confidence which will help her in performing well in the upcoming major tournaments.
