Carolina Marin overpowers Claudia Rivero in Women’s Singles Group L contest at London Olympics 2012
Carolina Marin, a spirited shuttler from Spain, showed her remarkable skills as she overpowered her lower ranked opponent Claudia Rivero of Peru in Women’s Singles Group L battle at the London Olympics 2012 on Monday, July 30, at Wembley Arena, London.
The in-form Marin, who has been positioned at number 29 in Women’s Singles world rankings, delivered an impressive performance and ousted Claudia without losing even a single set.
The higher ranked Carolina worked a little hard in first game but she easily grabbed the second game to end up the contest in two games with a comfortable difference.
The un-seeded Claudia, on the contrary, played competitive badminton in opening set and lost it with a respectable score. However, she completely failed to play positive badminton in the second game and easily lost the match to the Spanish shuttler in straight
sets.
The opening game was interesting when both shuttlers showed their remarkable skills on score board no one missed any chance to earn points at the initial stage.
The aggressive approach and positive execution of shots kept both shuttlers on track until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Carolina started to show her class by taking the bird early. She accelerated her speed and remained successful in taking a good lead on score board.
On the other hand, Claudia failed to maintain her aggression on court as she committed a few unforced errors which helped her opponent to take lead.
Carolina was positive at the ending phase of opening game and she bagged it with a decent score of 21-17.
In the second set, the higher ranked Spanish shuttler showed her tremendous skills as she played attacking badminton and took a wonderful lead until the end of first half.
The in-form Carolina kept the pace of rallies high and spared no chance for Claudia to narrow the different at any stage in the concluding phase of second game.
The impressive Spanish player managed to end up the second game with a staggering margin of 21-7.
Carolina emerged as victorious in this Women’s Singles Group L contest with a striking 21-17 and 21-7 score on the board.
