Carolina Panthers' Sunday victory ends Houston Texans' seven-game winning streak – NFL Recap
Visiting Carolina Panthers made most of the mistakes from Houston Texans rookie starter Taylor Jonathan (T.J. Yates) to give their hosts taste of their first defeat in past eight consecutive games with the final score at 28-13
in Houston on past Sunday.
T.J.Yates, a fifth round pick, who has taken over place of Texans star quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart who are out of the current National Football League (NFL) season for foot and collarbone injuries, respectively, lost
his first start.
Yates backed by the veteran quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia had played well into the Texans wins over the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals on past two weekends. However his Sunday’s mistakes at the starting position
gave the Panthers an advantage to end the Texans’ winning streak.
It was the first loss of the starts that T.J. Yates have made so far and the young rookie said that he had learned from his mistakes."I got a lot of stuff to learn from, a lot of mistakes made out on the field," Yates said.
Yates was intercepted by Panthers’ James Anderson in the end zone with seven and half minutes to go before finishing of the game as his side came 15 points down.
The Panthers have managed to build a 21-0 lead in the half-time. Newton completed 13 of his 23 passes for total 149 yards in rushing. It was first time that the Houston had not forced the turnover.
"We've got turnovers all year defensively," coach Gary Kubiak said. "We didn't get any today. We gave them points. We turned the ball over in the red zone, we turned the ball over on the plus-side of the field. Everything we did
wrong with the ball, turned into big points for them. That's obviously a big part of why you get beat."
Houston Texans defence, who for the first time was without their defensive co-ordinator Wade Phillips who is out recovering from a surgery on his kidney, found struggling against the Panthers. They had given 316 yards in total
while their opponents also managed 14 points which came through as conversion from turnovers.
It was first loss for the Texans in their last eight games, as the side in spite of facing injuries to their key players has managed to win successfully.
The loss however has not dented their position as the American Football Conference (AFC) south division leader with a score of 10-4 after having played 14 games in the current regular National Football League (NFL) season.
The Texans have already won the divisional title and made it to playoff, their first berth in their franchise history. They still have two more games to play before closing of the current regular season.
