Carolina Panthers Centre Ryan Kalil promises Super Bowl victory this season - NFL News
At the start of each season every team regardless of performance in the last season has just one goal in mind and that is to try their best to reach the coveted Super Bowl game.
Carolina Panthers last year ended up with a 6-10 record and delivered some brilliant late season performances to make themselves into one of the challengers this year for the National Football Conference (NFC) South division championship.
Many analysts believe that the Panthers with a roster boasting the likes of quarterback Cam Newton have a good chance of challenging for the division championship however, centre Ryan Kalil feels that the team is good enough to go all the way to the Super
Bowl this year.
Kalil made an unexpected move on Wednesday when he took out a full page ad in the Charlotte Observer newspaper and in it claimed that this was the year the Panthers would deliver their first Super Bowl championship to fans.
In the advertisement, Kalil wrote that fans support will be rewarded this season and said that there is only one way the season will end with:
"One hundred-percent, sterling silver victory. The Lombardi Trophy. And it reads:”
“CAROLINA PANTHERS -- SUPER BOWL XLVII CHAMPIONS!”
Kalil in an interview with the Charlotte Observer said:
"We've said it in the past in meeting rooms and behind closed doors. This year's different. There's a sense of urgency, a winning attitude that I haven't seen before. And it's in the way we prepare. It's in the way we approach each workday, and I think fans
will see it in the way that we play."
The Centre had not told any of his teammates about the plans and has now received support from his colleagues on the roster and also the management and Panthers coaches.
Head coach Ron Rivera praised the move and said that this was the exact attitude he wanted to see:
"Because if we don't have 53 guys with that attitude in our locker room right now, then we gotta find the guys that want it. We don't know what's going to happen.”
Even though it is too early to predict a Panthers victory, Kalil’s statement has shot his popularity and the fans confidence through the roof.
