Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton feels he will be even better in 2012-13 season - NFL News
Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton took the National Football League (NFL) by storm in 2011-12 after a record breaking season even though he did not have an entire offseason program to help assimilate to the pro-game due to the NFL lockout.
This year though the young quarterback will have complete preparation before the start of the new season and Newton believes that he will improve even more in the upcoming season.
"With reviewing all the games from last year, I feel that the improvement is through the roof for me,"
Adding further he said.
"I've had the whole offseason to work on the things that I feel like I need to get better at (and that) will come into fruition. With the upcoming OTAs, I feel like that's another time for me to get better."
The quarterback was speaking at a ceremony at Auburn University who unveiled a statue for the former Heisman Trophy winner for his contribution to the university as he led the football team to a National title in 2010.
Newton broke multiple records in his rookie season as he broke Peyton Manning’s rookie season record for passing yards with 4,051-yards.
He also scored 14 rushing touchdowns the most by a quarterback in a single NFL season.
With the Panthers retaining wide receiver, Steve Smith to a new three-year deal, Newton will have his favourite weapon at the franchise till 2015.
The quarterback was pleased that Smith is remaining at the franchise and said.
"Having him back is a big thing for not only me, as my whole evolution is going to change -- to have his leadership there -- but for the whole team. We need Smitty not for what he does at the receiver position but for the leader that he is, how much he holds
everybody accountable."
The Panthers ended 2011-12 with a 6-10 record and could have even reached the playoffs if not for their penchant of losing games in the final two quarters.
With Newton prepared fully for the upcoming season, Carolina will be a tough prospect for any NFL side and they will be gunning for the playoffs in 2012-13.
