Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton looking forward to next season - NFL News
Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton, had one of those seasons every rookie entering the National Football League (NFL) dreams about.
In his first year with the Panthers, Newton went on to break multiple NFL records that had held the test of time for years.
The quarterback also made the Panthers into a dangerous team as the offence which was one of the worst just recently became the league’s fifth best with Newton calling the plays.
Such huge performances deserve praise, however, the quarterback who led Carolina to a 6-10 record in, said that he was a bad teammate in a recent interview and did not seem to impressed with his achievements.
On Thursday though the quarterback clarified the comments he made in that interview.
Speaking to Jeff Darlington of NFL.com the quarterback said.
"I didn't really come out and say I was a bad teammate,"
He continued.
"It was just some things I feel like I could have done differently. I think that's my overall maturation in Year 2. Just analyzing what I did last year, some things that were good, some things that were unacceptable, and I just pointed out the things that
were unacceptable and things I'm working on this offseason."
There was not much wrong that Newton did last year.
The quarterback passed for a rookie record 4,051 yards beating the record previously held by Peyton Manning.
He also completed 60.0% of his passes in the last campaign and threw 21 touchdown passes to help the Panthers to a respectable finish.
Newton broke another record after rushing for 14 touchdowns in the 2011-12 campaign the most rushing touchdowns scored in a single year by a quarterback.
These are no small feats and even veteran NFL quarterbacks will struggle to match those numbers.
Newton went on to say that he concentrating on becoming even better in the upcoming season.
"Just being accountable of my actions, that's one. Two, just being a trusted teammate, not moping on the past because the past can't do anything for you. Focusing on the future. But that's neither here nor there. That's things I can do on the field. But
off the field, that's kind of a given, making the next step."
The next season will show just how much progress the young quarterback has made as he looks to help the Panthers challenge for the playoffs in 2012-13.
