Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton looking to make bigger impact in 2012-13 - NFL News
Carolina Panthers have a lot to look forward to in the 2012-13 season.
Last year their star quarterback, Cam Newton, exploded onto the scene and showed everyone in the National Football League (NFL) why he was chosen number one in last year’s drafts by the Panthers.
The quarterback broke multiple NFL rookie records on his way to lead the Panthers to a 6-10 regular season finish and was voted into the Pro-Bowl in just his first season.
This year fans expect even more from their quarterback and are looking forward to a long due winning season.
Talking in an interview with ESPN Radio 1100 and 98.9 FM, the quarterback talked about the Panthers preparations for the upcoming season.
He said about the team’s preparations.
“...anticipation for us is, you know, everybody being accountable.”
He added further.
“Everybody has to be mindful about from the playmakers gonna have to make plays, the veterans gonna have to lead and people that’s coming in for the first years or new guys including myself we still gonna have to make our impacts.”
He also talked about the criticism he received when he first joined the NFL from analysts who were not too impressed with his game play.
Newton last year went on to prove every critic wrong with his performances but he believes there are still some that he needs to show how good he is including to himself.
The quarterback also said that he is trying to fix some of the mistakes he identified in his game last year and will continue to improve as the offseason goes on.
"We're talking about a season that was just 6-10. Now that I go back and look at the film, there was things that I was disgusted about, and I feel like could have done a lot better. As we go forth on this whole preparation of the offseason, hopefully I can
mend those things and get back on track."
The quarterback passed for 4,051 yards last year breaking Peyton Manning’s rookie season record and passed for 21 touchdowns.
He also rushed for 14 more touchdowns showing that with an accurate arm he also brings pace and power to the field.
