Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton not afraid of Madden Curse - NFL News
The Madden Curse has claimed many a talented players since the first time the increasingly popular video game featured a top National Football League (NFL) player on its cover.
Every time a player made it to the cover of publisher Electronic Arts’ (EA) famous game he was struck by a bout of injuries or had a loss of form for several seasons afterwards.
This year fans are voting once again for the top player who will make it to the cover of Madden 13 and four players still remain in the running which includes Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton, San Francisco 49ers, linebacker, Patrick Willis, Detroit
Lions wide receiver, Calvin Johnson and Green Bay Packers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Newton in a recent interview with the Charlotte Observer stated that he is not afraid of the curse.
“Of course, it would be a big goal for me –- if I'm on it or I'm not, just being mentioned. I always grew up playing video games and playing Madden football. So that's an accolade in itself. Just having your name mentioned in the voting, I'm happy with that.”
The curse has a long history with some big names including Green Bay Packers legendary quarterback, Brett Favre not being able to continue their brilliant form after being featured on the game.
Detroit Lions wide receiver, Nate Burleson told the Detroit Free Press in another interview that he is hoping that Calvin Johnson features on the cover of the game this season.
"If any guy can break the curse it's Calvin. This dude is a monster. He's strong enough to break tackles, he can break a curse."
Lions fans may not agree too much with Burleson as they do not want their best player to be hit by a curse in a season where the franchise is looking to make it further into the playoffs after ending the drought last year.
Newton had an incredible 2011-12 season with the Panthers as the first pick of the 2011 drafts broke records upon records and made the Panthers relevant again.
Hopefully, if Newton makes it to the cover of the game it would not stop him from realising his potential and becoming an elite NFL quarterback.
