Carolina Panthers defeat Philadelphia Eagles by 30-22 – Week 12 Recap
Philadelphia Eagles lost 22-30 against Carolina Panthers in Week 12 game, on Monday, November 26, 2012, at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA.
Both teams of National Football Conference (NFC) South and East have won three games each while losing eight and both of them stand at the last position in their respective divisions.
The game nevertheless was interesting and tough.
In the first quarter, Eagles kicker Alex Henery started the lead with 3-0 by kicking a 36-yard field goal. After a few minutes, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who had not been in form during last few appearances, threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to tight
end Gary Barnidge. Panthers took the lead to 7-3.
At 3:36, Newton threw a 43-yard pass to wide receiver Brandon LaFell, who scored a touchdown and led the team to 14-3.
Henery scored a 41-yard field goal in the beginning of the second quarter. Later, Eagles rookie running back Bryce Brown rushed for 65 yards towards the end zone.
Henery scored a 45-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter and took the lead to 15-14.
In third quarter Newton rushed for one yard and scored a touchdown and increased the lead to 21-15. Brown rushed for five yards towards the end zone and scored his second touchdown and took the lead to 22-21.
In the fourth quarter, Panthers kicker Graham Gano scored a 23-yard field goal and gained three points for the team. Towards the end of the game, Newton rushed for two yards and took the team to victory.
Newton completed 18 of 28 passes for 306 yards and got two touchdowns.
Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was satisfied with Newton’s performance in the game, he said:
"We took some plays off his plate and really tried to balance it out and spread it among other players, and he has really responded very well to those things. I think we had to interpret it as giving him a breath once in a while. These last few weeks, he's
played like the guy we believe he could become."
According to Rivera, they have won after a long time and he felt really proud of his team that gave a good performance overall.
On the other hand, Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles failed to perform well again; he completed 16 of 21 passes for 119 yards and did not score any touchdown.
Panthers and Eagles will play their next game against Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys respectively.
