Carolina Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera uncertain about future with team – NFL News
Carolina Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera’s future is uncertain with the team as different reports have suggested that he does not have bright future with the franchise after the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
According to the Associated Press, Rivera had a conversation with Panthers’ owner Jerry Richardson, who has not offered him any guarantee about his future with the team.
Rivera signed a four-year contract with Panthers in 2011 and it is his second season as a head coach.
The team finished their 2011 regular season with 6-10, which was a bad record. Now they have won two games out of 10, this is really frustrating for Rivera.
He said:
"I'd like to believe that we're doing things the right way -- not completely obviously because we've lost too many games in close situations,"
Talking about players’ hard work during games and practice sessions, he added:
"I'm on a team right now where when practice ends, you've got guys catching balls and guys walking through protections. You'll see the DBs staying out there and working on their technique. There's a commitment that they're still making."
Panthers have already fired their general manager Marty Hurney because of the bad start of this season, and the appointment of new general manager is expected soon.
Rivera knows it will be difficult for him to stand this job, as managers like to arrange the staff according to their own preferences.
Panthers are moving towards their worst record again for the second time. In 2010, they were 2-14 and received the first overall pick in the 2011 draft.
They selected Heisman Trophy winner quarterback Cam Newton. Newton is not performing well from the start of this season, which is really bad for the team.
He has scored nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions and has completed 171 of 300 passes for 2,395 yards throughout this season.
They have lost many close games and despite trying hard they are unable to get wins. They won Week 2 and 9 games against New Orleans Saints and Washington Redskins respectively.
Panthers’ defensive end Charles Johnson said of Rivera:
“I'm going to fight with coach until the end. No matter what he does I'm going to ride with him. He's trying to lead us to the right place, so you have to stick with him."
Richardson has not commented on this issue yet, maybe he is waiting for the season to end.
