Carolina Panthers injury woes continue as Mike Goodson out for the season – NFL News
Carolina Panthers seem to not be able to get any break from their injury problems as running back Mike Goodson becomes the 12th player of the Panthers to be put on injured reserve and effectively out for the season with
a hamstring injury at practice last week.
With twelve players on the injured reserve the Panthers are two short of a National Football League record of fourteen, a record any team will try their utmost to avoid. The Panthers fans are already reeling from last Sunday’s
embarrassing 30-3 defeat at the hands of the Tennessee Titans and this latest news will sour the mood further.
The Panthers have filled the vacant running back slot with Josh Vaughan who has made the step up from the practice squad. Coach Ron Rivera however looks at the injuries as a cup half-full rather than half-empty and hopes that the
rookies making the step up take their latest opportunity with both hands saying
"You have to look at it as opportunity. If you're a young guy who wants to play in this league, here's your opportunity," Rivera said. "Look at (defensive end) Thomas Keiser. He did things the right way, just like Josh Vaughan
and Kion Wilson. These guys practice hard and give us a great picture, and they do extra stuff.”
Mike Goodson was a fourth round draft by the Carolina Panthers in 2009. This season was particularly poor for Goodson as he made a total of one reception and played just four games at the start of the season. The six foot 212 pound
running back has made a total of 28 appearances for the Panthers and scored three touchdowns.
Carolina Panthers face the Detroit Lions on Sunday and have had a poor season as they currently remain bottom of the National Football Conference South Division with a 2-7 record. Their 30-3 loss against the Tennessee Titans will
weigh heavily in their heads as the team did not put up any kind of fight during the whole encounter.
The Lions are second in the National Football Conference North Division with a 6-3 record and will look to bounce back from their 13-37 defeat at the hands of rivals Chicago Bears.
