Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton say he is a big fan of New York Jets’ Tim Tebow – NFL News
Although it was a long time ago when quarterbacks Cam Newton and Tim Tebow were part of the same team, Newton still remembers those days of friendship.
Newton came and shared the details about his time with Tebow in University of Florida after practice session on Friday, August 24, 2012. He said:
"There's a lot that I've learned from Tim and his professionalism. You know how his approach is to this game, and that's one thing everybody has to respect about him -- and I certainly do."
Newton and Tebow were teammates at University of Florida in 2008. Newton was a freshman that year.
On the other hand, Tebow was the backbone of the Florida team. University of Florida won the national championship which was their second in three years.
In 2009, Newton left University of Florida. He has never been in contact with Tebow since then.
Newton made it clear that the game between Jets and Panthers is not about Newton and Tebow. Both sides are going to meet in a preseason game on Sunday.
Newton and the rest of Panthers’ offence are looking forward to giving a quality performance against Jets. Newton said:
"I feel as if every stage is big for us this year. We have a point to prove, and we have to have that chip on our shoulder each and every game."
Panthers will have an edge as compared to their counterparts who are yet to score a touchdown in this preseason.
These two former friends are now in different situations as far as their professional career standings are concerned.
Although Tebow will start his third season in the league, he will be a backup to starting quarterback Mark Sanchez and will fight to get a chance to play as starter.
On the other hand, Newton is coming off an outstanding rookie season after being drafted as the first overall pick last year. He has shown impressive skills during the first two preseason games.
Newton believes that the game against Jets will set the tone for the start of the season. He said:
“This game is very important. The tempo is going to be increased to a degree. We just have to continue what we’ve been doing and do what our coaches have been preaching since day one.”
