Carolina Panthers re-sign guard Jeremy Bridges – NFL News
Carolina Panthers re-signed guard Jeremy Bridges on Wednesday.
The decision came after Panthers’ Week 10 loss during which they gave away seven sacks against the Denver Broncos.
Bridges started his professional National Football League (NFL) career with Philadelphia Eagles in 2003. He joined Arizona Cardinals in 2004 and moved to Carolina Panthers in 2006.
He was re-signed by Cardinals in 2009 and played all the games with them till 2011. Recently, he was moved to injured reserve when he got his thumb injured in the preseason.
Talking about Bridges, Panthers’ interim general manager Brandon Beane said:
“He’s a high-energy guy. He’s a guy we know. If we sign him, we’d be bringing him in to compete for a starting spot.”
He added:
"We're familiar with him, and a lot of our players have played with him. He can play right guard or right tackle, so he can help us at multiple positions."
Bridges is happy with his comeback. On knowing that he will play for Panthers’ offence, he said:
“It's no secret, I do like to run the ball. But I think every offensive lineman does. Pass-blocking is just something we get paid to do. I don't think any of us like to do it. For us to impose our will on defensive lineman, that's what we like to do.”
To create a place for Bridges, Panthers’ defensive end Thomas Keiser was moved to injured reserve because of his left elbow injury.
Bridges has played 28 games with Panthers as the right side offensive lineman
He was arrested and charged for allegedly pointing the gun on a woman before the start of training camp of the 2007 season in North Carolina. He was also suspended for two months.
In 2008, he got arrested for spewing champagne on others in a restaurant and for having verbal and physical confrontation with people.
