Carolina Panthers set to host Atlanta Falcons – NFL Week 14 Preview
Carolina Panthers are going to host their National Football Conference (NFC) South opponents Atlanta Falcons in Week 14 game on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC.
Panthers ended their two-game losing streak in Week 12 and then lost another game in Week 13 against Kansas City Chiefs.
On the other hand, Falcons have lost only one game this season against New Orleans Saints and defeated them in the rematch last week.
Their performance is intensely amazing throughout this season, Falcons wide receiver Roddy White said about last win:
"We've won the division before, so it's not that big of a deal. When coach said, 'Congratulations,' nobody was woo-wooing or nothing like that, which is good."
Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon knows what their goals are, he said:
"You have to be happy with where you're at right now, but ultimately it's all about finishing it. We set our goals high. That's just part of the step, so now it's on to the next part."
Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was 18 of 33 for 165 yards and scored one touchdown. Despite his not-so-good performance, the team won the game.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees was intercepted five times as Falcons’ strong defence did not give him chance to score any touchdown in the game.
On the other hand, despite impressive performance of Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton in the last game, they lost by 21-27.
Newton completed 15 of 27 passes for 232 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was satisfied with Newton’s performance, he said:
"His outlook on things, the way he perceives things and the way he's handled himself the last few weeks has been outstanding. He's played very well and given us chances to win. We have to take advantage of that."
Newton was not happy for their lost against Falcons in Week 4, but now he feels that losing games will not matter to him because the team has been building up more focus on offence.
According to defensive end Greg Hardy, it is the time to pay Falcons back for the bad behaviour of Ryan in their first meeting of the season. He seemed really furious with Ryan’s attitude.
In the last seconds of the game, Ryan had shouted towards Panthers sidelines saying get off our field, and it was caught by television cameras.
Many Panthers are upset with Ryan and called this action as disrespect to Panthers. Falcons did not respond on this incident.
