I'm thinking of buying a Carolina Skiff 16 boat. I would like to hear from some boaters of what they think of them. My cost will be--and this is out the door $1589.00. Anything you can tell me will be a big help.

  1. "I never met a boat I not like".

I not have one of these, but, I know what you talk of. If, it a boat you like, then that what important. I guess my main concern would be the experience of the person who built it. Most people can build a boat (If they want). But, do they cut costs buy using Steel nails and screws or do they use Brass and Bronze? Things along the quality of materials used. Then eye-ball her. Look from bow and stern to she if she have a good shape (Lines) and not look bumped out somewhere or twisted. This about all I know to say. A boat can look good standing 5-10 feet away, but, when you put the "Eagle Eye" to her, you see where the real craftsmanship comes in.

  2. Stable boat, flat bottom, more of a work boat, prepare to get soaked if the Bay gets ANY waves, it becomes a SCAR-O-Liner skiff

  3. Have had 12' 14' 16 Best have a good back as they will pound you to death>>There are other 1s like them but have a small v to the bottom>> http://www.boattraderonline.com/  Try looking here they have pictures>

  4. Carolina Skiffs are generally considered inshore boats... i.e. they are large, stable platforms good for families or fly fishing, crabbing, etc. But they are FLAT bottomed, which means they're as good as teats on a fish when it comes to any sort of rough water.  That's not to say they are of inferior construction, it's just that the design lends itself to pounding your kneebones through your kidneys.

I think you may have lost a decimal place on your number. $1589 is an incredible bargain. An appropriately rigged 16' setup, with motor and trailer, should cost you exactly ten times that.
