Caroline Afonso firm to do her best in the Netherlands
French Caroline Afonso appears to be in high spirits these days, as she appears to have set her sights on this week's Deloitte Ladies Open, scheduled from June 1 to 3, at Golfclub Broekpolder Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Afonso displayed a remarkable performance in the last edition of the prestigious tournament, as she finished tied for the second spot, along with Caroline Hedwall of Sweden. She posted a decent 214.
Now, with the field to set to start the match this Friday, Afonso has already made a solid strategy for the €250,000 event. Although winless so far, she has repeatedly vowed to make a name for herself on the LET (Ladies European Tour).
According to the tournament officials, this year's field is quite strong, as it is featuring several key LET contenders.
Some of the players include Anne-Lise Caudal, who won the Unicredit Ladies German Open, Christel Boeljon of the Netherlands, Karen Lunn of Australia, Frances Bondad, Felicity Johnson, Jade Schaeffer, Diana Luna, Florentyna Parker, Anja Monke, Lotta Wahlin
of Sweden and Beth Allen.
Analysts said that the current year's roster is stronger than the previous year's, which indicates that the tournament is going to stage a much tougher battle at the Golfclub.
Afonso's performance in the 2012 seaon has not been so remarkable, however, she performed much better last year. During one of interviews, she said that she was proud of herself, as she improved her game to a great extent.
Citing her performance in the Netherlands, the French prodigy said it would keep her momentum going.
"I’m quite happy, although the season is not yet finished! I’m quite happy because I made three podium finishes and an additional top ten in Slovakia. The rest of the season was average but I’m satisfied overall," Afonso shared.
When asked how she would perform in the 2012 season, she said that the season would bring her plenty of surprises, as she had been making big plans. She said that her training had been a little messed up due to not spending enough hours on the practice range,
but she would try to take it more seriously.
"Perhaps my objectives will change next year but I don’t want to change too much because I have had three podium finishes, so I will engross myself in my training this winter and try to work in the same way to see if I can get even better results".
