Caroline Baddock earns Women’s 100m backstroke gold – New Zealand SC Championships
Caroline Baddock of Laser Mt Eden Swimming Club-AK earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on foremost day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September 30.
Baddock went on a rampage in the 100m discipline as she proved supremacy over her challengers for the title. She remained comfortably ahead of her opponents and ensured her place on the victory stand for the crown.
She showed no leniency to her rivals in the backstroke discipline and occupied gold medal of the race with a timing of 59.88 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Kate Godfrey of Neptune Swimming Club-OT, who stayed 1.68 seconds behind and tapped the wall for silver medal with a timing of 1 minute and 01.56 seconds.
Godfrey was traced by Laura Quilter of Comet Swimming Club-HP, who stayed 0.11 seconds apart and earned bronze medal of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.67 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Baddock’s teammate, Rima Williams, who stayed 0.80 seconds apart and settled on the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 02.47 seconds.
Subsequently, Williams was followed by Ebony Maikuku of Templeton-CB, who stayed 0.08 seconds apart and finished fifth in the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 02.55 seconds.
Maikuku was trailed by Sophie Wotherspoon of North Shore Swimming-AK, who stayed 0.54 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 03.09 seconds.
The 18-year-old Wotherspoon remained 0.04 seconds lucky from her following swimmer and team-member, Chloe Francis, who concluded her race in seventh place by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 03.13 seconds.
Francis was chased by JoMari Meyer of Greendale Swim Team-HP, who remained 0.23 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and completed her race in eighth best place by submitting a time of 1 minute and 03.36 seconds.
In addition, Baddock was pleased with her victory in the race and collected her accolades after the swim.
