Caroline Baddock grabs Women’s 100m backstroke gold – New Zealand SC Championships
Caroline Baddock of Laser Mt Eden Swimming Club-AK grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke in 16 and over age category on opening day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on
Sunday, September 30.
The 17-year-old Baddock smothered her opponents in the 100m race and ensured her place on top of the victory stand for gold medal.
Baddock, who qualified into the final as top contender for gold medal, served notice of her talent in the playoff and reached the podium for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.07 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Kate Godfrey of Neptune Swimming Club-OT, who was only 0.15 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.22 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was chased by Rima Williams of Laser Mt Eden Swimming Club-AK, who was 0.55 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.77 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Ebony Maikuku of Templeton-CB, who remained 0.62 seconds apart and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.39 seconds.
Maikuku was trailed by Laura Quilter of Comet Swimming Club-HP, who remained 0.17 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the wall as fifth best finisher by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 02.56 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by JoMari Meyer of Greendale Swim Team-HP, who was only 0.06 seconds behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 02.62 seconds.
Meyer was followed by Chloe Francis of North Shore Swimming-AK, who was 0.54 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 03.16 seconds.
Francis was chased by Sophie Wotherspoon of North Shore Swimming-AK, who suffered a deficit of 0.24 seconds from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 03.40 seconds.
Furthermore, Baddock was pleased with her form in the event and collected accolades after the event.
