Caroline Hedwall's title defence: Hero Women’s Indian Open
Caroline Hedwall will enter the field of the Hero Women’s Indian Open as the defending champion. The Swedish professional golfer is the top contender as the players tee off on the 30th of November 2012.
The likes of Laura Davies, Karen Lunn and Stacey Keating will be participating in the tournament, but it has yet to be seen what the 23-year-old has under her sleeve.
She has to come up with a flawless game in order to defeat the top players of the LET Tour. The 2011 LET player of the year is looking forward to retain the title that she had won last year.
In 2012, during the month of September, the Swedish golfer got the better of Laura Davies and was crowned the champion of the UNIQA Ladies Golf Open in Austria.
Reflecting on her win, the Solheim Cup player recalled, “Actually it was a very unexpected win, as I got ill in the beginning of the week last year”.
“I felt alright when the tournament started but was pretty low on energy and I guess that helped me as I didn't have any expectations on myself. I just went out there to have some fun and got off to a good start and also had a good week with my putter!”
Hedwall displayed during the last year’s Indian Open that she feels comfortable on the course. The course is such that it complements the game style of the Swedish professional golfer.
“I remember hitting a lot of wedges and short irons into the greens, and that's one of the stronger parts of my game, so I gave myself a lot of birdie opportunities and managed to make a lot of them too,” she recalled.
Hedwall will face some stiff competition from other participants. The Indian contingent will be a force to reckon with, as well as players from the Ladies European Tour.
So the Swede has to be on top of her game in order to be crowned as the Champion of the Hero Women’s Indian Open.
