Caroline Hedwall hopes to clinch Omega Dubai Ladies Masters to mark her fifth victory on LET this year
Rookie Caroline Hedwall is hoping to end her trailblazing year with another victory on the Ladies European Tour and contemplating a victory at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters trophy this week. She is coming out fresh with her victory in India, at the Hero
Women’s Indian Open at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, New Delhi, where she came from the back to card her fourth victory on the tour for the current year.
“Based on the competition in this tournament, yeah, it would be my greatest victory in that case,” said Hedwall.
The young Swede has won a staggering six professional titles this year, four of which have come on the LET including victories in Slovakia, Finland, Austria and India as well as the Saab PowerPlay Golf where she overtook the likes of Ian Poulter and Graeme
McDowell. She has also won the New South Wales Open and is hoping to bag the double-peat of both Player of The Year and Rookie of the Year on the LET.
Hedwall is also hoping to topple Melissa Reid from the second spot on the Henderson Money List and needs to make up for a meagre €12,183 to do so. She, however, will not be able to surge all the way to the top as the Money leader for the moment Ai Miyazato
is poised comfortably at the top slot. Hedwall denied she is working to dismantle Reid from the top but conceded that it would be a welcome surprise.
“I don't look at it that way, but of course, that would be a good way to finish the season,” Hedwall continued. “I did gain a little bit on her now that I won last week, so I think now it's more realistic to think that I could pass her this week. Before
then it was a pretty large gap, but it's definitely a goal for this week, but we'll see. It kind of depends on how she plays, too.”
Hedwall also spoke about her performance for the whole year and said that she performs her best when she is under pressure. The first prize in the Dubai event is €75,000, good enough to topple Reid from the second spot especially in view of the fact that
Reid has been away for a six week break from the LET events.
