Caroline Hedwall hoping to bag the “Grand Double” title on LET
Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall might be heading for the rare accolade of the “Grand Double” as the young Ladies European Tour Rookie is hoping to be nominated both the “Player of the Year” as well as “Rookie of the Year” award after her mind boggling success
in the current season.
Hedwall has won twice this year on the LET although being a rookie and has taken the tour by storm. She took the better of the field at the Ladies Slovak Open and went over to post another victory at the Finnair Masters in Finland. She won the hybrid PowerPlay
Golf event in Wentworth where she romped to victory against a field comprising of Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and Paula Creamer.
Hedwall will be making her debut at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters at the end of this year and will be hoping to close the year with another stellar victory on the Middle Eastern turf. Currently placed third on the Henderson Money List, Hedwall is also ambitious
to summit the list before the end of the year.
“It would be nice to ice the cake with one final win in Dubai which, who knows, might be good enough to win the Henderson Money List (the official name of the Order of Merit),” said Hedwall. “I strongly believe in destiny. If it has to happen, it will happen.
I am not putting any extra pressure on me.”
Laura Davies is one of the only players on the LET who has won the dual award of both “Rookie of the Year” and “Player of the Year” since the inception of the tour in 1978. Hedwall will be only the second player on the tour history who will be holding the
“Grand Double” and considering her rampage on the leaderboards, she rightfully deserves the nomination.
Hedwall had a blistering amateur career before she turned professional at the start of the year. She won the European Team Championship in 2008 and 2010, the European Amateur Championship in 2007 and 2009, and the World Amateur Championship in 2008 before
embarked on a professional career on LET.
Hedwall remained with Oklahoma State University and was the also the 2010 NCAA Individual Champion, 2010 NGCA Player of the Year, 2010 Golfstat Cup Winner, 2009 and 2010 First-Team All-American, and Big 12 Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
Mohamed Juma Bumaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi also lauded the young golfer’s achievements so early in her professional career and hoped she will have a lasting impact with her presence on the tour.
“The presence of Caroline will bring fresh energy to the tournament. She has already shown flashes of her brilliance on the Tour and it would be tremendously exciting to watch this special talent,” Bumaim said.
The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is scheduled to start from December 11.
