Caroline Hedwall lands the Ladies European Tour Player of the Year and Rolex Rookie of the Year titles
The Ladies European Tour Player of the Year award has gone to the rampaging Swede Caroline Hedwall, after her monstrous success on her first year as a professional. Already awarded the Rolex Rookie of the Year for the same year, Hedwall has managed to achieve
the double-peat, bagging both the awards in the same year.
“This means a lot to me,” Hedwall said. “To be honest, I hardly can believe this year. I mean it's just been so good, and if you told me I would have won four times on the LET, I probably wouldn't believe you, so it's just been unbelievable.”
Hedwall won no fewer than four LET titles in the current year, making her one of the most successful players of the year. She started off her knock after qualifying for a playing status on the LET, pulling in a nine shot victory at the La Manga Club and
went over to card her first title, Allianz Ladies Slovak Open at the scenic Grey Bear Golf Resort in Slovakia in May. She won her second LET title, the Finnair Masters in Helsinki and another, the UNIQA Ladies Golf Open presented by Raiffeisen, in Austria.
Never complacent with her overwhelming success, Hedwall flew down to New Delhi to win her fourth title, the Hero Women’s Indian Open at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon near New Delhi in December. Hoping to card her fifth victory at the season-closing,
Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, Hedwall fell behind the ranks as the 16-year-old Lexi Thompson went all the way to pull in a brilliant victory.
Despite of her stunning performance throughout the year, Hedwall was not able to top the Henderson Money List as the 26-year-old Japanese star Ai Miyazato surged to the top with her sole victory at the Evian Masters presented by Societe Generale in France.
Hedwall settled for the third place on the money list, trailing Miyazato and runners up Melissa Reid, grossing a total of €278,529 out of the 20 tournaments she played in the year.
The 22-year-old Swede was also featured in this year’s Solheim Cup where the European Team went over for a historic win against the rampaging American counter parts.
“The best highlight is the Solheim Cup. That was just the best week, one of the best weeks of my life. So it was such a good week and so much fun, and to win the Solheim Cup my rookie year, too, that's just unbelievable. So overall it's been a great season.”
Hedwall added.
Hedwall was also featured in the hybrid Saab PowerPlay Golf event in Wales this year where she won the exciting nine-hole event, thrashing the field having the likes of Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and Paula Creamer.
