Caroline Hedwall maintains her lead as Christel Boeljon moves into contention at Finnair Masters
The third and final round at the Finnair Masters on the Ladies European Tour is in progress at the Helsinki Golf Club. The day started off to be another fine sunny morning which gradually seeped into a warm and breezy afternoon. Swede Caroline Hedwall, the
overnight leader is now being challenged by the top LET player Christel Boeljon who has moved into the second spot after she overtook Frenchwoman, Anne-Lise Caudal.
From Hedwall’s perspective, the final round has so far, turned out to be a disappointment when she fell for a bogey on the front nine and carded just two birdies to stay in the lead. The 22-year-old Swede had pulled an eye-popping back nine on Friday with
three birdies and an eagle to snatch the lead from Caudal. Hedwall is already through the 14 holes and has barely managed to keep the lead with one shot.
Boeljon, the Henderson Money List leader, has done well throughout the weekend to move into contention for the €30,000 event. The Turkish Airlines Ladies Open winner finished on a strong note at the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open and has four more holes to go
to probably clinch her second title on the tour. Started off from front nine, Boeljon pulled in three birdies in the opening nine but has remained relatively complacent in her back nine.
Another of the top performers on the final round has been none other than the Tenerife Ladies Match Play winner Beck Brewerton of Wales, who carded one of the best final rounds of eight-under, 63 to settle for the joint third with her aggregate score of
seven-under, alongside Carin Coch.
Brewerton pulled in four splendid birdies in her back nine and a stunning eagle at par-five, 17th. The player finished off with six birdies and an eagle, without dropping a single shot in the day. She would have easily taken over the field had
she not fallen for a three-over, 71 in the first round. Her opening round included five bogeys and just two birdies.
Caudal, who was the co-leader in the opening round, fizzled out under immense final round pressure and stumbled with two bogeys in her final round. The winner today at the Finnair Masters will proceed to the Evian Masters on the Ladies European Tour, the
event with the biggest purse on the tour.
