Caroline Hedwall records a victory in 2012 season
Swedish Caroline Hedwall may have taken part in a few tournaments in the 2012 season, but recording a victory and a second-place finish shows she is set to further improve her position in
the 2013 season.
Hedwall played her last LET (Ladies European Tour) tournament in Dubai where she battled rivals for Omega Dubai Ladies Masters title. She could not clinch a triumph, but her performance
was good enough to place her inside the top 10.
The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2012 was held last week at the Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, with the participation of several top-ranked LET titans. Hedwall gave a time to most of her rivals
as she also ranked among the favourites for the coveted title.
The Swedish star shot a total score of 279, grabbing a share of 10th position along with five other contenders. Although she made a solid start to her campaign as she posted a
69 in the first round, her nearest rivals quickly surged past her in the next three rounds.
Hedwall posted a 71 in the second round, but she picked up pace in the third as she boosted her position with the help of a 67.
Chinese Shanshan Feng, who was playing her first ever Dubai Masters, displayed a superb performance as she posted a total score of 267 to win the title.
She posted a 69 in the fourth round, reeling off two birdies and one eagle. “I missed a short putt on 10, maybe five feet or six feet, so I think I kind of was a little nervous on the putting,”
Feng said while speaking to the media at the end of the tournament last Saturday.
The star golfer has proved that she is not going to give up without putting up a tough fight when she comes face-to-face against rivals in the next season.
She took part in just six tournaments in the season. Her first one—Gold Coast Racv Australian Ladies Masters saw her post an overall 276 to finish tied for the 11th position on
the leaderboard. She then took part in the ISPS Handa Australian Open, finishing tied for the 12th position.
Hedwall ended her brief victory drought after she won the Uniqa Ladies Golf Open in September.
