Caroline Hedwall wins her second title on Ladies European Tour at Finnair Masters
Caroline Hedwall’s stunning form continued on this weekend when she came back to record her second win on the Ladies European Tour (LET) at the Finnair Masters at Helsinki Golf Club. The rookie professional is one of the most promising female golfers who
have been earning laurels for her country, with two glorious victories in her 11th appearance.
“I’m playing pretty well. It was a good day. It was fun. My best day was yesterday. I shot six under and I think that was the key to the win. It put me in a good position. I played pretty solid and I knew that if I holed a few putts I would have a good score.
I’m going to keep on going and hopefully earn a few more wins,” said Hedwall while speaking to reporters.
Moving into contention earlier in the second round, Hedwall blasted her way to the top with a jaw-dropping six-under to stay clear of the first round co-leader Anne-Lise Caudal of France.
With another solid round on the final day with three-under, 68, the 22-year-old Swede easily took over the field to win the €30,000 event and also bagged the precious Henderson points to soar to number three on the list. She posted an aggregate of 11-under,
202 for the 54-hole tournament.
“I play very solid and when I putt well I score low,” she said. “My mistakes are not that big so I normally score around par and when I’m good I’m low.”
Hedwall was pitched against the likes of Christel Boeljon and Becky Brewerton but she managed to retain her composure in face of stiff resistance. Being an overnight leader, Hedwall teed-off the final day with a one-stroke lead and stayed that way through
out.
Boeljon, winner of the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open in Antalya, and also the leader on Henderson Money List, finished two shots behind with an aggregate of nine-under.
Hedwall was later posing for the photographers along with her twin sister and caddie, Jacqueline Hedwall, who is on a golf scholarship at the Louisiana State University. Hedwall has now earned €134,972.79 in her 11 events on the tour and has ascended to
the third place on the Henderson Money List, trailing the leaders, Boeljon and Diana Luna. The Swede won her first event Allianz Ladies Slovak Open just a few weeks back and went over to win the hybrid PowerPlay Golf at Wentworth.
Most of the contestants at the event were wrestling to gain extra points to make it through the Solheim Cup team, which is scheduled in September this year. Boeljon was happy to post another strong finish which earned her valuable points to help her secure
a spot in the coveted event.
Hedwall has now reserved a spot in the upcoming Evians Masters on the LET, one of the biggest events on the tour in terms of prize money.
