Caroline Masson rises to clubhouse lead at Ricoh Women's British Open
Caroline Masson smashed a score of seven-under-par in the second round of Ricoh Women’s British Open to top the leaderboard. The second major of the season is taking place at the Carnoustie Links.
The German ace teed off from the front and fired four birdies to set the mood for the rest of the day. She marched towards the back and picked three more birdies to cap the day as a leader.
The 22-year-old from Gladbeck had been taking tips from her compatriot, Martin Kaymer, as they share the same coach, Günter Kessler.
“What was probably most important, he told me some stuff Martin told him about his British Open and his attitude and all that. You really have to like links golf and accept whatever comes, whatever conditions you have, and I think that helped me quite a
lot,” said Masson.
After hitting all 15 fairways, the second year Ladies European Tour professional marched towards the clubhouse with a huge smile on her face. She was happy and confident for displaying accuracy in her strokes.
“Everything was just really solid. I mean, I hit the fairways, I hit the greens, hit some really close, made some putts. Hardly made any mistakes, so I think that was just the key the last two days. I'm putting well; my short game is all right,” she added.
In-Bee Park and Meena Lee followed her after compiling a score of ten-under-par each.
Park was superb on the front nine, from where she teed off. The Korean birdied six of the nine holes and gave her fans something to cheer about. The player marched towards the back nine, clawed three more birdies against a single bogey and finished with
the lowest score of the day. Meanwhile, her compatriot Lee reeled five birdies against two dropped shots and wrapped the day with a 69.
World number one, Yani Tseng made a superb comeback after kicking off with a 71 on Thursday. The pro clawed six birdies, one eagle and two bogeys to compose a score of 66.
