Caroline Masson stands firm in third round of Dubai Masters
German Caroline Masson kept the momentum rolling all the way through third round of Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, shooting a 69 on Friday.
Masson took the fourth position at the end of the third round, while she was standing at the third spot after carding a 68.
The German star, who got off to a sensible start at the Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, lived up to the expectations of her fans in the first three rounds, and is likely to keep it up going in
the final round well.
Masson started the round on Friday with an aim to restrict her nearest rivals from surging ahead. She, however, could not make as solid a start as she planned because she bogeyed the second
hole.
Regaining her momentum, she drained her first birdie on the par-5 third hole. She posted another two birdies on the 7th and 9th hole.
On the back nine, the LET (Ladies European Tour) star performed much better, having shot three birdies. But the round did not go without flaws as she carded a bogey on the 17th.
The German golfer received appreciation from the spectators after she rattled off two straight birdies on the 14th and 15th hole.
Masson is taking the season-ending Dubai Masters more seriously than any other contender because she is seeking to win the 2012 money race.
Standing at the second position in the ISPS Handa Order of Merit, Masson is giving the current money leader, Carlota Ciganda of Spain, a tough time.
According to the stats, Masson needs to finish the tournament inside the top three in order to become the money leader for the 2012 season.
Sharing her thoughts while talking to the media at the end of the second round, Masson said that she is feeling confident and sure she can win the money race.
“It's just nice that I feel comfortable out there. I didn't really expect that because sometimes you just feel a little weird on the course,” said the German who opted out of the 2012 Hero
Women’s Indian Open.
Chinese Shanshan Feng kept inflicting pressure on rivals in the third round as well, maintaining the lead.
