Caroline Ruhnau snares Women’s 50m breaststroke final: Day five – German Olympic Trials
Caroline Ruhnau of SG Essen snared gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke final on fifth day of the 2012 German Olympic Trials in Berlin on May 14.
Ruhnau experienced strong resistance from her closest competitor, Laura Simon throughout the single lap breaststroke event but with her astonishing efforts, she succeeded in outperforming her over the finishing end for gold medal.
With her astounding efforts, she cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal by clocking a time of 31.66 seconds.
Her title-claiming effort was chased by Laura Simon of SG EWR Rheinhessen-Mainz, who stayed 0.04 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as silver medallist by submitting a time of 31.70 seconds.
Simon remained 0.21 seconds ahead of Charlottenburger Damen SV Nixe’s Margarethe Hummel, who stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by producing a time of 31.91 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Katharina Fischer of SSV Ulm 1846, who stayed 0.23 seconds behind and failed to overpower her foregoing finisher by submitting a time of 32.14 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Dorothea Brandt of SG Neukolln, who remained only one stroke away from her former finisher and clocked a time of 32.22 seconds.
Brandt was followed by Sibylle Dalacker of SV Nikar Heidelberg, who suffered a deficit of 0.33 seconds from her preceding finisher and ended her swim with the timing of 32.55 seconds for sixth position.
Dalacker was chased by Sonja Schober of SG Dortmund, who was 0.45 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 33.00 seconds for seventh position.
Schober remained only a touch ahead of Lena Gebhardt of TSG 1884 Niefern, who secured eighth best position of the discipline by producing an effort of 33.04 seconds.
Following that, the arena witnessed sluggish efforts of Julia Willers and Vanessa Haupert, who finished ninth and tenth in the discipline with timings of 33.06 and 33.16 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all listed events while the position holders received awards and accolades for their impressive performances after the session.
