Caroline Wilson and Kendra Stern set records at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship
Caroline Wilson and Kendra Stern lowered the record for the Women’s 400-yard Individual Medley and the 200-yard freestyle, respectively, in the finals on day two of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Swimming and Diving Championship.
The session started with the Women’s 200-yard freestyle relay, where Denison team conquered the top spot on the podium in an outstanding time of 1:32.33 minutes, against the teams of Emory and Williams, who secured the second and third spot in a time of
1:33.03 and 1:33.85 minutes, respectively.
In the Men’s corner, Kenyon met the arena’s expectations by winning the equivalent event in a time of 1:19.70 minutes ahead of Emory and Denison, who touched the wall in 1:21.00 and 1:21.48 minutes, respectively.
In the Women’s 400-yard IM, Caroline Wilson improved the record by three seconds, clocking a fabulous time of 4:13.90 minutes. Elizabe Horvat and Kaitlyn Meirs followed Wilson for their second and third spots on the podium in a time of 4:15.02 and 4:25.00
minutes, respectively.
In the Men’s event of the same category, Paul Dyrkacz failed to improve the record in the 400-yard IM but won a gold medal with a timing of 3:52.97 minutes. His effort was comfortable ahead of Christ Bateman’s 3:54.74 minutes and Danie Thurston’s 3:55.22
minutes.
In the Women’s 100-yard butterfly, Logan Todhunter, who improved the record in the morning session failed to produce any further improvements but maintained her top spot in a time of 53.57 seconds. She was followed by Leslie Hackler and Laura Pierce, who
won a silver and bronze medal in a time of 54.75 and 55.01 seconds, respectively.
John Dillon dominated the equivalent event in the Men’s category by clocking a time of 47.62 seconds. Michael Mpitsos and Wya Ubellacker followed him for their second and third spots in a time of 48.15 and 48.24 seconds, respectively.
In the next event, Kendra Stern once again improved the record at this championship in the 200-yard freestyle, in a time of 1:44.82 minutes. Alyssa Swanson and Amanda Croix followed her to clinch the silver and bronze medal in a time of 1:48.89 and 1:49.25
minutes, respectively.
In the Men’s corner, Gary Roberson conquered the equivalent event in a time of 1:37.51 minutes ahead of Craig Fleming and Alex Fraser, who clocked a time of 1:37.79 and 1:38.47 minutes, respectively.
The third day of the championship will begin with the preliminary rounds of further events. The finals of the categories will be conducted in the evening session.
