Caroline Wozniacki, the first one to qualify for Tennis WTA Championships
The world number two Caroline Wozniacki earned a place in the year ending WTA tournament after successfully making her way into the quarterfinal round of the Pan Pacific Women championship on Wednesday.
Caroline, who was a finalist in previous year’s United States Open, required just seventy minutes getting past her Russian tennis foe, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a two-setter clash in Tokyo. The final match score was 6-1, 6-2. The Dane, as a result of this
victory has booked her spot in the WTA championships, which is going to be held in Doha from Oct, 26th.
"I am extremely happy to be playing in Doha. It was a goal for me going into the year to be in the top eight. I am really happy that I am the first one to qualify," said the 20-year-old Dane after her victory on Wednesday.
Caroline blasted an ace to prevent a break point during the third game and then grabbed five straight games as Anastasia struggled with her serve, smashing a total of seven double faults, one on a break point.
The Russian tennis ace, trailing 1-4 during the second set, at last managed to break Caroline during the sixth game of the second set; however, the deficit was too huge for Anastasia to bounce back into the match.
"I feel that I am playing some good tennis. Today it was a tough match, even though the score was 6-1, 6-2. Pavlyuchenkova is a good player, so I knew I had to be focused all the way through and I am happy about the result," Wozniacki added after confirming
her quarter-final berth.
The quarter-final match will see the Dane take on her buddy Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland, who dispatched off her German tennis foe, Andrea Petkovic in two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-3.

match score was 6-4, 6-0.
Zvonareva, while commenting on her yesterday’s win said that she is quite happy with her recent form and is looking forward to play some good tennis in the next couple of matches here in Tokyo.
"Overall, I think I played a good match, but there is still room for improvement, particularly with consistency. I need to be more consistent and I didn't show my best today, but I played well when I needed to," said Zvonareva on Wednesday.
The Russian, as a result of this victory has set up a quarter final clash with the seventh seed Dementieva, who bounced back from a service break down to get past her Italian tennis opponent, Flavia Pennetta in two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-2.
