Caroline Wozniacki, the new tennis world number one
The 20-year-old Danish tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki has successfully usurped the world number one rank from her American arch rival Serena Williams. In a very recent match at China Open tennis tournament which is being held in Beijing, Wozniacki thrashed
her Czech rival Petra Kvitova and clinched the world number one spot marvellously.
The quarter finals stage match of the China Open was no doubt an important chapter in Caroline’s career, as she was able to deliver her best and achieved the desired goal of leading the women’s world of tennis. Wozniacki thrashed past her 20-year-old rival
from Czech Republic by 6-3 6-2 pretty convincingly in a two-setter match.
After the match when the new world number one was asked about her feelings, the Dane expressed her feelings pretty emotionally and excitedly and told the world that being the world number one is not less than a dream for her, and she is feeling like on top
of the world. She added that being at the top is really a big deal for her, and she is enjoying the best time of her life.
It is to be noticed that Caroline Wozniacki is the third tennis player in two years to snatch the world number one title without winning a Grand Slam event. The other two winners to top the world rankings without bagging Grand Slam title are Serbian tennis
star Jelena Jankovic and the Russian tennis ace Dinara Safina  in 2008 and 2009.
When Wozniacki was asked about her plans and ambitions for the upcoming major tournaments the 20-year-old expressed her views by saying that her next target is to win a Grand Slam. She added that she has not won a major title until now but it is her dream
to win a Grand Slam event and let the world know about her capacity pretty bluntly.
Wozniacki is currently enjoying the best playing form of her career, and it is probably the best chance for her to participate and win a major title. To hold the current rank, it is important for the Dane to keep her focus and nerves and try her level best
to keep her match winning form alive and running.
The former world number one American tennis veteran Serena Williams has not played since July after winning the Wimbledon Grand Slam. Williams held the world top rank for one hundred and twenty three weeks, which is in fact a vivid sign of her great playing
ability. Currently, Serena is suffering from her left foot injury and her chances of getting back to the tennis court in the near future seem a little too less. According to a recent report the 29-year-old American can make a return in next week’s WTA (Women’s
Tennis Association) event, which is being held in Linz. Her return to the tennis circuit in Linz will allow her to check her current physical and mental situation before going for the bigger Masters event, which will be held in Doha, Qatar.
In the other top eight stage matches of the China Open, the 26-year-old second seed for the tournament Vera Zvonareva beat her compatriot rival Maria Kirilenko after a strong battle of nerves and stamina. The current world number four Zvonareva held her
nerve pretty well and showed her brilliance very bluntly. Despite of losing the first set of the match Vera recovered remarkably well and won the match by 5-7 6-4 6-2.
On the other hand, the Serbian tennis starlet Ana Ivanovic saw off her Russian rival Elena Dementieva after a very exciting match. The Serbian beat the Russian seventh seed by 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-4).
