Caroline Wozniacki - A look at her 2010 performances
Born on 11 July 1990, in the city of Odense, Caroline Wozniacki is a professional tennis player from Denmark. The twenty year old tennis sensation is currently ranked number three in the world by the WTA. She has so far captured a total of eight WTA Tour titles in her career. Moreover, the right handed Caroline was also the runner up at the hard court United States Open tournament back in 2009.
As far as her 2010 performances are concerned, Caroline started off the season by participating at an exhibition championship, held in Hong Kong. She was defeated in two singles clashes for Team Europe, however triumphed in two mixed doubles matches along with her partner Stefan Edberg.
In her very first WTA championship of the season, Caroline was knocked down in the first round by her Chinese opponent, Li Na in Sydney. At the hard court Australian Open competition, she was seeded number four to win the title. Caroline made her way till the fourth round of the event where again she was defeated by Li Na in straight sets. However, in spite of the fact that she could not reach the latter rounds of the competition, Caroline achieved her career highest world ranking of number three.
The 1.77 meters tall Caroline participated at the Indian Wells as a second seeded player. She made her way into the final of the competition and met Jelena Jankovic as her final opponent. Jankovic defeated Caroline in a total of two sets to win the title. The final match score was 6–2, 6–4.
Caroline contested at the Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament as her third competition of the year. She reached the quarterfinal round of the competition where she was defeated by Justine Henin in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6–7(5), 6–3, 6–4.
Her next competition was at Ponte Vedra Beach, where the third ranked player from the women’s side made her way into the finals after thrashing out Elena Vesnina in the semi final battle. In the final match, the twenty year old Wozniacki did well to beat Olga Govortsova in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6–2, 7–5.
Caroline then played at the Family Circle Cup tournament in Charleston and could not pass the semi final round of the competition as a result of her ankle injury.
At the clay court Grand Slam, French Open tournament, Caroline entered the Roland Garros seeded third to win the title. She played extremely well and made her way till the fourth round of the competition without losing a single set. She easily won her fourth round match against Flavia Pennetta in a total of three sets. The final match score was 7–6(5), (4)6–7, 6–2. In the quarterfinal match, Caroline was kicked out by the eventual winner, Francesca Schiavone with a final match score of 6–3, 6–2.
At the grass court Grand Slam tournament this season, Caroline appeared at the All England Club, seeded third to win the title. She knocked down Chang Kai-chen, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova as well as Tathiana Garbin on her way into the fourth round where she was kicked out by Petra Kvitova in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6–2, 6–0.
As far as the Cincinnati Women’s Open tennis tournament is concerned, Caroline Wozniacki was granted a first round exit. She faced Sybille Bammer and successfully defeated her in a total of two sets. The final match score was 4–6, 1–6. However, Caroline lost her next round match of the Cincinnati Women’s Open tennis tournament to Marion Bartoli.
