Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams play in a charity event at Palm Country Club – Tennis News
Women Tennis Association’s former world number ones, Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams, participated in the charity event that was scheduled to help the Kids and Police Tennis Association (KAPTA) of Palm Beach County. The event
was called the “Battle of Sexes” and was hosted at the Ballenisles Country Club during the weekend. Other players that took part in the exhibition were also the former Top-10 pros, including Brenda Schultz-McCarthy and d**k Stockton.
KAPTA aims at improving the lifestyle of the people of Palm Beach County. The money raised through charity is spent on the advancement of the facilities situated in that area and especially to the equipment used by the kids for
the game of tennis. A lot of people from the suburbs of Palm Beach County came to witness the 22-year-old Dane and the 32-year-old American in action. The charity amount that was collected through the sale of tickets and other revenue generating schemes reached
the figure of $4,000 that will directly be debited to the fund of the program.
The 24th ranked Williams stated in a post-charity event press meeting, “Oh, it's awesome because it’s nice to affect where you live. It's good to see the young people playing and for them to have support in their lives.
I've been out here doing this for two years and it’s a great tradition now.”
Wozniacki who holds the 10th spot in the Women Tennis Association year-end ranking list also addressed the reporters and stated, “It's nice to do something for a good cause and to be out here with Venus and some young
rising stars. Its good fun and hopefully the crowd enjoyed it as well.”
The American star is on the rise again after a terrible injury-stricken season in 2011. She is still fighting a disease but not planning to give up anytime soon. The 32-year-old American won her only title of the latest season
BGL Luxembourg Open which was the last tour of the year for her.
On the other hand, the Dane won two titles in the season; the Hansol Korea Open and the Kremlin Cup. She was close on winning a title in Sofia but the Russian veteran, Nadia Petrova, ended her unbeaten run in the Tournament of
Champions at the final.
