Caroline Wozniacki and her coach, Ricardo Sanchez, part ways – Tennis News
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, has decided to bring versatility to her game play and she has decided to change her coach for that purpose. She has parted ways with the Spanish coach, Ricardo Sanchez; after training
with him for just couple of months. She is definitely frustrated at her inability to beat the big guns at elite platforms and definitely wants a complete change in her training style.
Her father, Piotr Wozniacki, backed the decision made by the Dane. Talking to local media tabloid Esktra Bladet, he stated, “She didn't feel that she got sufficient new input.” Piotr coached Wozniacki earlier to the appointment
of Sanchez but the partnership didn’t work well and the performance by the Dane in the Australian Open clearly shows the need of changes in her game style and built.
After the breakup, Sanchez is reported to have said, “Piotr and Caroline have their own system. Their relationship is very close. They really work well together. It was impossible to break the ice and join in.” It feels like
the healthy relationship that is crucial for any partnership failed to flourish between Wozniacki and Sanchez. It will be interesting to see how long her new coach lasts before she puts the blame on him and sets him aside.
Wozniacki was the most controversial world number one but ironically, she held that spot for 65 weeks without winning a single Grand Slam title. She is still hunting her career long dream of winning a Grand Slam title. However,
her long time arch rival, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, has achieved that landmark in her history by winning the Australian Open title on Saturday defeating the likes of Russian tennis ace, Maria Sharapova, in the final. She is also the one who snatched the
world number one spot from the Dane. It must be painful times for the Dane as she suddenly dropped to the 4th spot after ruling the world for more than a year.
Sanchez further commented on the strong connection between Wozniacki and her father’s style of coaching by saying, “I have great respect for Piotr, who has never played tennis and the work he has done. But he has his style
and I have mine. Piotr has his system, I have mine. It's like (Jose) Mourinho and (Pep) Guardiola.” Football fans would definitely understand the depth of the statement put forth by the Spaniard. Let’s see who takes up the charge as the new coach and whether
he is able to lead the Dane to her maiden Grand Slam win or not.
