Caroline Wozniacki arrives at Emirates Golf Club to support Rory McIlroy – Golf News
Rory McIlroy, a professional golfer from Northern Ireland, is joined by his girl friend, Caroline Wozniacki, prior to the Dubai Desert Classic, scheduled from February 9 to 12, 2012.
The former world number one tennis player reached Dubai on Tuesday and saw his beloved star practicing on different holes on the course.
McIlroy is among the favourites to win the tournament as he has maintained a good past record at the venue and it is one of his favourite golf courses around the world.
He mainly practiced on the Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club where Wozniacki witnessed some of the best shots McIlroy made.
The US Open winner said that he is happy to have his girlfriend with him while he is preparing for the tournament. However, some people said that it may divert his attention from the game.
On the other hand, McIlroy believes that he gets a mental boost due to her appearance on the course, as he then tries a little hard to display the best of him to Wozniacki.
This is not the first time the couple is seen together. They are often found having fun on different vacation spots.
Meanwhile, another golfing sensation, Lee Westwood has arrived at the Emirates Gold Club and is aiming a good finish in the prestigious event.
According to Westwood, he is in good shape compared to last year. Moreover, he said that he has a good past record in Dubai as he was placed second in the 2010 Dubai Desert Classic, which gave him an advantage over his contenders.
He started his season from Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, where he stood 17th, followed by 12th in the Qatar Masters.
“I have normally missed a cut by now, and thrown in a 60th-place finish or something like that,” Westwood said about the tournaments he plays in United Arab Emirates.
“I would say if I was making an appraisal of the first couple of weeks, I've hit it a lot better than I normally do,” he commented.
“Short game is a little bit sharper than normal. Putts are quite nice, starting to roll a few longer ones in,” he added.
The only problem with his performance in the recent times was him making too many bogeys at times.
Moreover, his wedge shots have also disappointed most of his fans, as they were not as sharp as they used to be in the past.
However, Westwood believes that he will not disappoint his fans again and he is confident to finish with at least a top-10 place on the leaderboard.
