Caroline Wozniacki bags quarterfinal victory against Christina McHale – New Haven Open 2011

Finally the world number one, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, had her revenge from the American wildcard, Christina McHale, by defeating her in the quarter-final round of New Haven Open at Yale on Thursday afternoon.
The contest was staged at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Connecticut, United States, with the top seed Dane registering a 7-5, 6-3, victory over McHale. Wozniacki suffered a defeat at the hands of McHale in Cincinnati
last week but took down the American this time round with authority. She took one hour and forty three minutes of play to make it to the semi-finals of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Series tournament.
McHale gave an absolute shocker when she defeated the world number one 6-4, 7-5, in the second round of Cincinnati Open but utterly failed to replicate the similar performance with her racquet on Thursday afternoon. Wozniacki delivered
62 of her serve right and secures 31 out of 41 first serve points en route to victory, while the American contestant followed her with 20 out of 33 points to finish on the losing side in the end.
The belligerent top seed displayed her true class to dispose of McHale in style. She served very well when needed the most in the matchup and played a precise baseline game to take down her opponent. She nailed three out of six
break opportunities in the matchup and successfully defended three out of four break points she faced from her opponent.
“It was a different match than the one in Cincinnati. I played better today - I think Christina played better today as well, actually,” Wozniacki told in her post match reviews. “Today I cut down on my unforced errors and made
a few more winners than I did the last time. I went in there, I was determined. I was trying not to lose twice in a row. I went out there and won, so I’m pleased with the result today.”
The top seed pocketed the opening set at 7-5, with a cracking serve break in the 12th game and continued with her good work in the following set as well. Wozniacki registered her third break point conversion of the day
in the eighth game and then served out of the contest at 6-3 to book a berth in the semi-finals of New Haven Open at Yale. She will take on the world number eight, Francesca Schiavone of Italy in the next matchup for a place in the final of the tournament.
